Buying a stylish, wearable knitted jacket is a wonderful way to treat oneself .  They can be short or long, close fitting or roomy, in all sorts of beautiful colours and textures.  To be loosely draped or snugly wrapped is a pleasant decision to make. Knitted jackets also make a great gift around Christmas time to keep your loved ones warm.

Jackets are special, because like coats, they are often the outermost layer of an outfit.   It is from this first impression that our appearance and personality are sometimes judged.  An unusual knitted jacket can set us apart from the crowd as an individualistic, or in contrast, an everyday knitted jacket looks neat in a simple shape with simple stitches.  In this case there is nothing complicated to look at but as the renowned painter of Mona Lisa, Leonardo da Vinci, is alleged to have stated: “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”.

There are many different names given to the variety of knitted jacket styles.  For instance, there are ‘box-tops’ which are an easy fit for all sizes; ‘cropped’ jackets which are a convenient ‘put on’ when the weather turns a little chilly.  However, although extremely charming and useful, ‘crop tops’ do only cover the upper body. 

 We must remember that by their very nature, jackets have to fit over all other garments and must therefore have a certain amount of give and ease in them.
